In an Instagram video posted after her recent headlining performance at Australia’s Laneway Festival, Charli XCX hinted at a possible musical shift on her next project. The pop superstar teased that she might go in a different sonic direction on her follow-up to Brat. “I really had fun doing it and it got me thinking,” Charli reflected. “What if we made a record with guitars or strings… or both? Lou Reed era maybe, I dunno just saying.” Charli’s musical swerve is supported by one of Brat’s co-producers, Finn Keane, who recently told Grammy.com that the 32-year-old singer is plotting to “do the complete opposite thing again” on her next LP. “It’s the iconoclastic impulse to rebuild something completely different, to show that you actually could do this other thing.” Charli ‘s Brat World Tour starts back up again on April 5 in Mexico City, followed by headlining sets at Coachella in mid-April, before she launches her U.S. arena tour on April 22 in Austin, Texas.
